The Insider Details of Urine Testing For Pot and Other Drugs

Drug Testing

Too many lives are affected by a simple yet complicated diagnosis of drug detection. For most Drug Tests…The Science is based on circumstantial evidence that measures naturally occurring reactive digestive enzymes and not the actual drug.

There are different levels of enzymes that are measured for certain drugs and then sometimes even similar drugs and or not even closely related drugs. This creates what is called a “false positive”, which still might leave the decision to the policy of the Drug testing facility -whether they allow an exception or not. And they may make it a decision of the employer or drug testing company to either retest, reject or pass the sample.

There are two main types of urine diagnostics. The first is known by a few different terms. Home Drug Test Kit, Instant Drug Screens, EMIT (ImmunoEssayTest), 5-10 panel Tests. They come in a cassette, a dip stick, or a testing cup. And they may be used and disposed of at the work site, or even sent off to a laboratory then tested. The test usually yields results within 5-10 minutes, and its accuracy on tests is questionable. Set at different enzyme counts THC is generally set at 50ng(nanograms). Some Laboratory devices such as The GCMS can read around 15ng. and The LC/MS/MS claims to read as low as 5ng.

Lab Device tests are considered to be more effective at determining certain drug enzymes and are usually used as a secondary test. GCMS(Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry) Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC), Radioimmunoassay (RIA), Gas Chromatography (GC), Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS), or Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry/Mass Spectrometry/(LC/MS/MS) are but a few of the Devices used for drug testing. Some may claim to be more accurate than others but still may result in false positives between legal and illegal drugs. The average of false detection is hard to measure. Some claims are as low as 6 percent, others as high as 16 percent.

Detection times vary for different drugs and users. THC has the longest detection rate, between 2 days and 3 months. Most other drugs are unreadable in the urine between 2-8 days. The scientific research on the accuracy of current methods of drug testing has been at a relative stand still for more than a decade.
