Common Drugs in the US

Several types of legal and illegal drugs are used by teens and adults in the United States. Access to and use of these drugs depend upon a variety of factors. It is due to these conditions that certain drugs have become more widely used and preferred over others.

For instance, alcohol is readily and easily accessible in all fifty states, so long as the person is of legal age to purchase it. As a result, it is one of the more commonly used drugs in the country. Another drug which was once considered illegal in all fifty states, but now has been legalized in many states and continues to increase in popularity, is marijuana.

In some states, marijuana can be used for both recreational and medicinal purposes, while in others where it is legal it may only be available for medicinal purposes.
